History of the RMS Mauretania:
The RMS Mauretania, designed by naval architect Leonard Peskett and built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, was a famous and successful British ocean liner operated by the Cunard Line. It held the Blue Ribband for the fastest Atlantic crossing for over 20 years, and was requisitioned by the British government during World War I as a troopship and later a hospital ship. Despite opposition from devoted passengers, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Mauretania was retired in 1935 and sold for scrap, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of ocean liners.
